UPFI Faculty


The UPFI faculty consists of professionals both in the industry and the academe. Similar to the Institute’s lineage to well-rounded education, its respectable educators are also well-rounded individuals. Not only are the faculty members prolific in their fields of expertise, they also are highly acclaimed and recognized by local and international award-giving bodies.

UPFI educators believe in the importance of both scholarship and practice. Thus, they continue to strive for professional excellence in mainstream and non-mainstream arenas, and pursue further and greater education. In fact, faculty members are frequent recipients of prestigious awards.


Aside from the current faculty members mentioned above, there are also other renowned professionals and scholars who have been part of UPFI’s educators’ team.  At present, the current roster of lecturers include notable mainstream film industry cinematographers Nap Jamir and Neil Daza; award-winning visual artists, independent short filmmakers and animators Nonoy Dadivas, Teta Tulay and Vivian Limpin; award-winning scriptwriters Armando “Bing” Lao and Cenon Palomares; renowned veteran actors Boots Anson-Roa and Malou de Guzman; locally and internationally recognized media scholars Tilman Baumgartel, Eduardo Piano and Joven Velasco; scholar/writer and gender advocates Lorna Israel and Marra Pl. Lanot; and TV practitioner Ramon Bautista.

Some of the past instructors include National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, award-winning writer Dr. Butch Dalisay, visiting American professor Collis Davis, musicologist/musician Robin Rivera, director s Maryo J. Delos Reyes, Lino Cayetano and Jose Javier Reyes, independent filmmaker Kidlat Tahimik, Lyle Sacris and Sari Dalena, Dean Ellen Paglinauan, to name a few.

            The achievements of the faculty members account to a concrete resource of knowledge and expertise of the Institute. The faculty remains aiming for further and better education, immersion and experience.
